    Default Living Room

    Hi People.

I´m trying to learn Max 7 Mental Ray, so I choose this living room to do it.

This living room is lit by 4 MR area spots, one in each opening and intensity of 0,65, color near white. There´s a direct target also, acting as sun and intensity 2,5, pale yellow.

In my opinion, this image is too bright and seems that contrast is missing.

    My logarithimic exposure control settings:

    Brightness: 40
    Contrast: 70
    Mid Tones: 1,0
    Physical Scale: 3.000

    GI Settings:

Maximun Num. Photons per Sample: 10.000
    Maximum Sampling Radius: 5,0

    Trace Depth
    Max. Depth: 3
    Max. Reflections: 3
    Max. Refractions: 3

Average GI Photons per Light: 2.000
    Global Energy Multiplier: 1,0
    Decay: 2,0

    Final gather: off

I hope you can help me, once I dind´t delivery to the client yet.

    Thank you so much.

Don't know much of MR, Wilson, but the image looks good, even though Final Gather is off. The only thing that bothers me (and probably bothers you as well) is that the back wall looks too bright and, therefore, flat. Maybe you should start using only the sun as a light source and then place the other lights as you fell they are needed. The foreground looks cool, though.
    Cheers!

    hello there

I´ve decided to make a night shot, witch in my opinion gave more effect to the scene.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

nice, but i think the gi solution needs to be darker and richer. the shadow areas aren't contrasty enough. the white walls/ceiling look way too bright.

    much better
now try to reduce the color bleeding from the carpet (play a little bit with the shader or do some experiments with fg falloff)

<good one, though I would suggest to move the camera a bit to the left, target a bit to the right. I think your current view(one point perspective) is looking flat.
