60mm to 80mm Funnel adapter

Greg where did you get the funnel adapter in this pic?

I'm using this sink http://www.cooljag.com/product/pdf/jac152a_2d.pdf but the fan on CPU2 had dropped almost 400RPM in the last month. Me thinks it's dying.

As you can see from the spec on the OEM fan it displaces 37.6CFM and is 46.7 db! so I'm looking to get an 80 mm Panaflow (H1A/39.6CFM/32db) for both CPU. It should fit no?

I assume that the second link is for the manufacturer?

 

I was doing some readni about these funnel adpaters and foud that hey would probably run hotter, but would be quieter. AS per the following formula:

 

RelativeVelocity = CFM/Diameter^2

 

60mm --> 37.6CFM/60^2 = 0.01

80mm --> 39.6CFM/80^2 = 0.006

 

This is actually 60% less efficient. Did you notice any difference in temps when you used it?

Yes they are ALOT less inefficent. The main reason for using a funnel adapter is a reduction of noise. Some of the high spinning 80mm fans, produce 60+ CFM, and are still quieter then their 60mm counterparts, due in part to not creating that whinning sound.

 

So you do lose cooling capability going this route, at the benefit of your ears.

 

I myself haven't used a delta in a long time (I either strip them right off, or rewire them to use half the voltage) So compared to the original solutions, I'd have to say ya, your going to lose about 6-8C, both because your running the CFM down, and your using a less efficent method of transfering that air.

 

Thats one reason why I switched to thermalright AX-7's. 80mm heatsinks, using 80mm fans. Pure money baby. :)

Hey Greg,

 

Thanks for that link to the manufacturer. I called them up and they have agreed to ship to me directly becuase NewEgg does not ship to Canada. They also said that http://www.cyberguys.com carries them too.

 

One question, I have the Asus 266D and I assuming that these aluminum funnels will fit. I did some quick measurements and it looks like it will be damn close. The heatsink on the ti4400, the RAM and the intersection of the two funnnels look very close. I'm assuming they do as you had them...right?

 

One other question what is your current recomendation for high output 80mm fans? I was looking at the Panaflow H1A 39.6CFM. Are these good? Lastly can the 80mm fans be hooked up to the MB or do they have to wired the powersupply? I was told the other day that they would shut off if connected to the MB as they spin too slow.
