trouble importing autocad drawings in viz

When I try to import an Autocad dwg file in 3dviz r4 it asks me if I want to replace or merge. I choose merge and then the Import Autocad file dialoge box comes up asking about my preferences and no matter what I choose or don't choose nothing shows up in my viz file. What am I doing wrong?

Probably the file is too big or has many details that the Viz can't read....try exporting the file as .3ds and then import again and if it didn't work just try to import each layer seperatly or 2 layers at a time

hi, i think he is right. May be the autocad drawing is too heavy for viz to import. Try importing it in parts. This has worked several times for me

Or try file linking (Viz 4 had that, right?) you could always bind it later if you didn't want to keep the link.

Use the file/file link in viz instead of import.

 

This way you can update the viz file as you update the cad file.

 

Make sure your cad model is at x=0,y=0 too. This might help with viewing and panning in the viewports. Sometime drawings are miles away from 0 and this causes untold problems viewing
