    Default Lobby render

Hey everyone. This is an existing interior lobby renovation of a building in Jacksonville. The main source of light is an ambient blue coming through the windows, and some very minor recessed lights (not visible) on the ceiling. I had a few days to work on it with a lot of strange art pieces to try and deal with and create, so be please be kind. Any C & C are welcome. This is Vray free and Viz 2005. Rendertime was about 14 hours + post process.

    Thanks in advance.

14hrs is very long but nonetheless very impressive. the plants don't fit the environment, they didn't have any reflections or shadows on the floor so they kinda bring down your image.

you've got a pretty nice image there, and i think you're really close to an excellent one.

    here's what i caught:

    + nice lighting overall
+ the colorfull tree in the column looks really good
+ very good integration with the image

    - the people look odd, especially the ones on the left side, the perspective doesn't match.

    - i think the trees look good, but the containers don't look right and don't cast any kind of shadow.

    - i'd up the faces on that column.

    - escalator texture lacks detail...looks like solid stairs.

i think that would really help out the image....

I agree 14 hrs is a very long time. The image size was huge (5400X3600). It was taking way too long for the trees to render so I rendered the trees seperate. So I guess trying to save time really hurt the image.

Chuck, you are absolutely right about the escalator. I should have modeled it better. As for the column, unfortunately, I used sketchup to model and then exported as a dwg. I then file linked into Viz, and adjusted the smoothness in the file link parameters, but nothing helped. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Thanks for all the comments.

I'm not sure how to fix it in Viz, I just make sure I increase the segment number in sketchup. 24 isn't enough. Hopefully that won't kill your SU performance.

Nice integration of the exterior! You've got to get rid of those people though... they are killing the image right now.

I went on the sketchup forum to find the answer to this. Only in sketchup 5 is there an option for this problem. Apparently, there is a weld verticies option in the 3ds export menu. By checking this, it will smooth the verticies. The only drawback is that if you bring it into cad and save as a dwg, the weld verticies portion disappears and gives you faceted surfaces. I guess the only way around this is to export portions of the model as 3dds and the rest as dwg.

You are right Brian. The people are killing it. Not much to do with it now though. The people were at the request of the client.

    Thanks for the comments.

    hi, nice job indeed
    but
    maybe
    1. lack of GI allover
    2. lack of refl/refr allover
    3. dond bover with people/plants - u can post process it in phothoshop - i reccomend u to buy a phthshp tut book and spend a wine&night with it - I guarantee u can save ab 50% memory on thingmemory-consuming leaves to render, at least

    good luck
