MAX Script for replacing geometry in an imported DWG file?

We're doing loads of 3d viz where I get simple arch drawings in DWG format, with geometry on different layers.

This allows me to file-link them into Max, and using a simple "base setup-scene" the layers are all assigned the right materials.

Often, I then go in and replace certain geometry, and replace it with my own, more detailed Max models. Now does anyone know of a way to automate this?

So that loads of simple ACAD objects could be automatically replaced with a better Max version?

IE. if I import a Shop Cad file full of crappy ACAD objects indicating "jeans go here" I would like a search and replace function swapping each one for a nice pair of Max Jeans. Preferably to the right scale!

Is there a script or some other way?

If not, would someone be interested in investigating developing a script for me? This would be paid work, of course.

Any tips appreciated. If you wish to contact me, try: henrik@graylindstrom.co.uk

You could try using the replace command, all you need to do is to rename the objects in your scene to one name which matches the object in thefile which you replace from. I think there is a script out there already for renaming objects, you might have a problem with rotation though as the geometry you take through from autocad will not have any rotation applied to them.
