hi There
Peter Dozal www.dozalart.com has been
an arch illustrator for about 37 or + years
a lot of his workflow is very (internally) smooth from his tremendous amount of experience
software wise:
(i did This on a couple of small projects for him, autocad only)
1. model in autocad 3d solids
2. render in VIZ To get some shadows, perspective
3. use The above VIZ output for an 'underlay' & Paint in Painter,
The ENTIRE IMAGE is literally 'digitally' painted on Top of The basic underlay
Peter sometimes skips 1 & 2 and just does 3
his best stuff is NOT UP on his website, he doesnt want
his competitors knowing his latest and greatest Techniques
way Too cool
Peter now uses a Mac with 30" hi-res monitor, 18x12 Intuous 3
and prints everything in-house, only hardcopy walks out The door
This is The basic workflow
i wish i had half his Talent
he gave me his old Tablet it is a 12x9 not a 12x12 as previoulsy mentioned
i must need glasses
Randy

I knew it. I'm in the wrong business. Maybe I should start a post-production studio for converting renders into paintings
Nice image Randy. Is that the result of your new tablet?
Gotten used to it yet? Takes a little while, and for some reason I've never been able to navigate or work in 3D with a stylus (stuff flies around too quick), but for other stuff it's second nature to me. Plus, having a multi command script function at your fingertip (and on the tablet depending on the version you own) is very useful.
I often have to do repetitive tasks, like converting Grains & Grasses or Jungle DVD nozzles into Photoshop versions. Having that stylus button, which I tie to a PS Action via an Fkey command, is really a time saver. Better still, the newer versions offer an up and down button click, which means you can run two different PS actions from that stylus button.

so i am gathering a stylus is like a pre requisite for painter?

Hi Kippu.
IMO, yes. Actually, I don't see how anyone could work effectively in 2D without one, whether it's Photoshop, PSP, Painter or some other program.
I haven't tried it in Max or ZBrush or one of the other 3D environments that offer paint-like modeling (nurbs?), but I imagine the benefits would be similar.
Randy, have you tried your tablet, pressure sensitivity, with ZBrush or one of those? AJLynn, how about you?

Dennis
so what happened or is happening with your compuker?
i got To re-install The Tablet, got a new harddrive and lost all previous configs
say do you have a paypal or equivalent account?
we should send you $1 per person To help your next hardware acquisition
or buy someThing at Two-for-One
i woke up in The middle of The nite (another nite-mare) Thinking
That if i get painter next week and your computer is not running
it wont do me any good if you cant send me some nozzles
so i am Thinking of how To help you get another compuker
but i might start doing more NPR and just digital painting
(like The previous image i posted The other day, Thats me)
a brief snapshot of my daily internal landscape
Thanks
Randy

I'll email you to gory details. Innocent people shouldn't have the read this kind of stuff :P

I have painter and I just got a graphire to play with it ( no time so far though )
I'd really like to see a in depth tutorial about using painter specifically for softening up rendered images or doing something like piranesi does ( without the cutouts )
I normally do the fill and erase trick with pshop but I've yet to find a decent brush and technique.

There's lots actually, ever since digital photography became inexpensive. Try googling/yahoo for Painter+tutorial+cloning
Here's one: http://www.paintercreativity.com/art...a-sitting.html It's older, but you can get the idea quickly even if the Painter UI has changed a bit.
Take a look at the sticky at the top of this section. There may well be something linked there too.
I come across them all the time. I'll try to remember to post some links here when I do.
Painter 9.5 makes this easier than ever. Just look up cloning in the manual. With Painter, cloning extends to areas somewhat distinct from the more staid Photoshop definitions.
