Hey everyone,

We have a new client that has requested something specific. They want us to model their house but they want to be able to navigate themselves sort video game like. We used be able to do something like that with datacad called o2c. Is there something like that available for studio max. Any advice would be much appreciated. By the way tried panorama exporter and it seems very limited, so no luck there....

how about looking into one of the game engines? i know you can use your max createdgeometry with them. It'd be a case of creating, rendering and texture baking your scene them utilising that within a game engine.

I'd imagine its within the games engines interface that you'd create collision detection and controls etc.

a couple of engines / games that may be of interestcould be half life and unreal tournament.

also i sure there was a thread looking into this stuff a few mmonths back?

You could also use the "ClickVR" plugin for 3dsMax, this allows you to navigate around and through your model in real time. It even supports real time reflection (obviously not raytrace) and even shadows.

The plugin allows you to set up collision detections, so they cant walk through walls etc.. and even allows you to assign actions, like click on a door to open, or click on a lightswitch to switch on the lights etc..

Obviously it wont be vray quality, but the quality is about the same as a good video game.

Its quick & easy to learn, you could probably nail it in a day if you're already an advanced Max user.

try this thread http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/13640-walk-through.html

i posted it a while ago, i was looking for something different (panarama quicktime viewer kind of thing) but there were about four other options that looked pretty interesting in terms of generating an explorable, navigatable world.

also I suggest Cult3D, it's easy to use and have good output. also it's easy to install for you and your client.

try this 3D engine... "DX Studio!"

Ive used it recently and its a good solid engine, nice interface and excellent support...plus a very reasonable price

or if you have £50K spare and a good 3D coder you could always buy Renderware ;)

game engines are OK if you arent too technical and dont want to get bogged down technical real-time issues
