Well agreed there is no rule written about it...but since this is an "Architectural Vizualization" & not just a CG competition, we are, IMHO supposed to focus on architecture...it will actually be good raise the question in FAQ as many of us might face a similar question during challenge#1

Point taken. I posted the question in the FAQ anyway but I think that I will continue to work with a more conservative approach. Thanks Neha.

I don't think there is any rule about composition. As far as I know, the visuals of the still and animation are to tell the story you have come up with.

    Hello Ernesto,

Great to see your visualization with the color and lighting continues. I think at this point it is still early in the WIP for how much of the actual structure is in the frame. As this piece develops there could be potential to tighten the frame as needed but consider giving yourself some room to explore the story using the environment as you have in my opinion. There is still a lot of area to push this particular WIP.

    G day, fellows.

I think the composition will work for the final animation where the camera will actually be able to tell the journey from the start (bridge) and the end(main focus) the building(architecture itself).

I had similar problem when trying to compose the still shot myself without having to have the similar shot as the rest of the competitor.

The sketch is a great start for getting the mood and setting right on this one.
    Awesome.

    Cheers

    Thanks for your comments.

I think that I am going for a more scenic composition. I am using the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu as a reference for the environment of my scene.

Machu Picchu, referred by many as “The Lost City of the Incas”, was one of the last refuges by the Incas, before their surrender to Spanish conquistadors.

Here are a couple of quick matte paintings I did just to get a feel for the idea. Let me know what you think.

Lovely environment but pay a lot of attention to the composition.
Be sure the photos and 3D scene contrast is the same.

Very good start! And I agree with others that it's good to see some exciting color scheme already at this phase. For me your 1st view seems much better than the 2nd one which is a bit more conventional. And about the ice on the 2nd one: it gives me the feeling of looking at a waltdisney kind of illustration: if it's intentional you did it great but if you want real-word ice than you need to work on it some more.
