Render Resolution Question

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did do a search but couldn't find anything usefull.

A Client wants a render to be printed on A4, bit like a glossy photo, so I went into photoshop and opened a new doc using the A4 preset, that resolution is 3508 x 2480 @ 300pixals per inch. That seems massive to me!!, its that really required to get a good print or could I afford to lower it? Render time is a problem as this is needed for Monday and its not ready for rendering yet, so if I can cut down that resolution but still keep a fairly clean image that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help received

Mark
