cad drawings to 3d

Hi,

 

Im new on this forum.

I have spent the last 6 years in 3d on the cinematic side of things. My last job I was always promised cad drawings to go from for modeling wal marts and such for market research fly thrus, but I never once recieved any, so I modeled from the photographers images by eye, and used what little measurements they gave me.

 

Anyway, I now have a potential client who is going to supply me cad drawings. What is a good importer for max9 or xsi6.1?

I found that very usefull, and I've used this method a few time since and its nice and quick, you wont need an importer for max if its from autocad or saved as dxf, dont know about xsi

I plan to do most of the modeling in max, but I usually do my furniture in xsi, and sometimes mudbox if there are closeups.

I haven't upgraded to XSI 6 so I don't know if there were any changes in the import capabilities, but there is a free plugin out there for importing DXF files.

In xsi 6.1, there is now a standalone app called crosswalk, It is an ongoing development tool for importing and exporting from xsi to max or maya, I have used it quite a bit and it is very stable, and even converts xsi materials to max materials.( version 2.3 is already out )
