Default Vrl Map Vs Vr Map

Hi to all....

i have sme doubts regarding vrl map Vs vr map....

please advise me......

VRL Map

1. When i generate vrl map for every 50th frame in my 3000 frame animation sequence....The vrl map gets generated and it shows 2.5 mb even before the 1st frame rendering gets completed.....so wat i would like to ask is.....can i use tht vrl map which is generated by the first frame rendering
to the final animation instead of waiting the whole vrl map caliculation to get complete...???

2. And mreover......even if i wait until the whole vrl map caliculation to get complete......the size of vrl map is not changing...its still 2.5 mb...so may i know wats the deal to wait until the whole vrl map caliculation getz complete....????

3. Though i put medium animation settings for the final animation rendering..
Wat wil b the effect on the final animation if i use tht vrl map which has been generated with only one frame....???

4. Lastly, cant we render final animation without caliculating vr map, is it necessary to caliculate vr map also, i mean to ask wat would b the results if i render without caliculating vr map ???

VR MAP

1. why does vrmap is smaller in size compared to vrl map....coz if vrl map is 2.4mb ...vr map is only 864kb...strange isnt....???

2. While caliculating irradiance map before final animation wat should be secondary bounces G.I engine to be????? can i put none and then caliculate vr map???? r i have to put lighcache itself???? r iam gng wrong anywhere???? plz adivse........

Regards and thanks in advance

hmm, vrmap saves your Irradiance Map and vrlmap is the format for the lightcache.
did you had a look at the animation tutorial in the vray manual ?
basically you first calculate the LC, then you calculate the iradiance map and afterwards you used the saved maps to render out your animation.
my advice would be to take look at that tutorial mentioned some lines before. that should really help you out.

From what I understand, the VrlMap uses part of the information from the VRmap which helps speedup it's process. That's why the combination of Lightcache w/ Irradiance map is faster than using QMC with Irradiance. That being said the two maps hold different amounts of information which results in the different sizes.

As for starting an animation early, you have to wait till the lightcache is calculated for the scene and then the irradiance pass starts into your first frame. As long as your Irradiance calculation stays ahead of your final render you will be okay. (using incremenatal addition saving out the irradiance... in your case every 50 frames.....)

As for the VRmap being the same size the whole time, my guess would be it knows how many samples its going to collect, and it allocates all the memory it will need from the start, and then fills in the memory as it calculates. Just cause it's taken the memory already doesn't mean that all the information required for rendering is in place yet.

Side note, unless your camera is moving really slow, you may want to calculate every 30 frames or even less, in my normal animations 50 has been to far apart..... but if you aren't noticing any dark patches where the irr map is missing, ignore me on that one

hope this helps....
