    Default Boolean Splines Operation Failure?!

    Hi everyone,
    This is my first post; just discovered CGArchitects recently. Great resource.

    I have a question. I've been starting 3ds max 9, and attempting a boolean union on two closed splines, to heal the joint between the two walls, as shown in the pic. I constantly get the error “ERROR: Final boolean weld stage failed”.

    What does this really mean, and can anybody suggest a workaround to this?

    Other fora suggest increasing the number of vertices, reserving vertices, or applying the edit spline modifier, but nothing like it works.

    Cant you just trim the intersecting parts of the spline and weld the verticies?
    Im starting to suspect that the world is a rendering...

    With the amount of time you have spent trying these alternate methods, you could have redrawn this (traced over it) as a single entity about 30 times.

    True. There are easier ways to do this.

    I'm working through Autodesk Viz 2007 by Omura, Onstott and McFarland. I've tried the same thing in Viz, but the result is the same as in 3ds Max. The point is, even though I'm following the instructions to the letter, I can't get the result from the book.
    And yeah there are basic alternatives to doing this, I'm simply trying to find out what I could've done wrong, and learn a lil more about the program.
