Max Design > Viz. Basically, it's the same as regular Max, minus the SDK, plus a lighting analysis tool. Unless you write code, you want the Design version. I've heard it said (by reliable sources not to be named) that this is phase 1 in a new plan and the AEC features will be increasing in subsequent versions, but the important part is that now the two versions have the same core and development schedule. Without the long-range plan it wouldn't make any sense.

great...about a month after my company bought (not subscribed) Viz 2008. Does anyone know how much it would cost to upgrade to a new Max Design license (again, bought, not subscription). By the way, are Arch and Design materials not supported by Viz 2008? That would really top it all off.

Personally, I am very happy with this new development, professionally I am terribly frustrated. I just shelled out a fortune fro 6 viz 2008 licenses (OK, 3 of them were upgrades, but that's not the point).
As I trained in MAX years ago, I was always running into deadends in Viz. Things I knew max could do. I am hoping this MAX design package can do sub-object animation. |

well i used VIZ for 5 years almost everyday.... it was a great help and i certainly enjoyed it...and got amazing renderings from it.
however, I do agree that, having all the features of max would be much better even in architectural applications remember, that many of us probably would of never ventured to the full max if it were not for viz.... so don't say it never had its value... my 3 cents (my thots are worth more now) ray |
