Xeon 5400 series

Recommended Posts

Our firm just got 2 nodes of the following spec. each node is 2 Quad core making a total of 16 cores.

my question is does intel makes x5400 series for server rack. Our server rack is e5400 series. I just need to be educated, what's the different between x and e series for xeon?

It's not a question of Intel making a CPU for a rackmount - the rackmountability is a function of the computer as built by the vendor (e.g., it's Dell/Boxx/HP/etc.'s responsibility to make a rackmount configuration, not Intel's). So you need to ask your server hardware vendor what they can supply. AFAIK Boxx and some others can supply dual quad Xeons in 1U rackmount chassis.

yes it is dual quad Xeons in 1U rackmount chassis - additional chassis as desired.

I guess my question is can the same above spec be configured with x5400 series instead of e5420. And what's the different between them? My assumption is the x series is just more powerful.
