Is anyone using an SLI setup that can comment on its performance? Would you use two lower speck cards that may cost a little more than a higher end card but give you better performance?
I make fake things for real people to convince them fake things are real.

I'm running an ATi HD4870 1GB on a XP 64 system using max 2009 and have nothing but good things to report. I've only had one issue with drivers and that was in relation to my Spyder3 Pro monitor calibrator. The ATi stuffed the monitor profile up so to fixed the problem I had to stop the ATi from loading its control panal thingy on startup. I did read about overheating problems before buying but I've never had a problem and I live in a hot huimid climate too.

Q: What was your former Graphic card and could you compare it with 4870, please?

Sorry can't compare to previous cards. I've been out of the 3D industry for the past 5 years and only just getting back into it know with a new system.

Here's the mode for your cards, if you have some extra time you can play with them and turn them into FireGL

Be careful. I've seen viruses packaged with hacked FireGL drivers on Chinese web sites.

    Hi guys!

    Can somebody guide me,
i'm currently shopping for a i7 920, and i have 2 choice for video cards..

What would you recommend between these 2?

    Radeon hd 4870X2 1024mb
    GEFORCE GTX 285 1024 mb

    Thanks for your help
I need the viewport speed and i will work with some evermotion library..

    Take care

For Max, it doesn't matter much. If you want to use something specialized, some run better on one than the other - e.g., Revit runs better on ATI cards, but that new Vray GPU feature Jeff posted a demo of currently requires nVidia (though they're talking about porting it to OpenCL, which would run on either).

    ok,
It's primaly for max, so the extra 100 $ for the radeon is not really worth it...?

Thanks for the quick response Andrew!
