OK.Ive been trying to find a solution to this for quite a while now i hope someone here can help me
I work in an architecture office here in Cyprus . Along with my boss we decided to 3d model everything in microstation and then export the model in a format compatible to be imported in Cinema4d.The problem is that we havent found yet a format that gives an exact represantation of the model. Can anyone tell me how to export a model of microstation ,that can be read in Cinema4d with all the relevant information? (If you dont know how its done with Cinema4d ,3dstudio max would be sufficient as well) Thank u |

I dont think this is a Cinema issue, more likely a Microstation export problem.
Cinema will read DXF, 3DS, OBJ, FBX and now DWG among others with no problems. I use DXF to transfer from FormZ every day. I have used FBX, DXF and 3DS to go to and from 3D Max many times. |

What do you mean by "with all the relevant information"? If you're looking for something where it comes in being exactly the same with materials, lighting and cameras, and when you hit render it comes out exactly the same then you go from there, well, that's not how it will work. But as Steve said, if you want the geometry from Microstation you've got half a dozen choices.

I was merely referring to geometry and thinking that maybe some parametric objects weren't translating properly out of Microstation. I have no experience with it and can't comment other than which formats I have found useful in the past between FormZ, Cinema and Max.
As AJ stated, getting texture information, lights and cameras, will be possible to varying degrees with each of the formats suggested. FBX and 3DS will likely hold the most of this info. |

I also constantly export geometry from FormZ to Cinema without any trouble. And if you are using Cinema for rendering, then I would strongly encourage you to only use the geometry from you Microstation model. Cinema's lighting and shader systems are some of its best features. To get the best results, you'll want to set up your lighting, textures, etc. directly in Cinema.

To be honest i just want to export the model out of Microstation....The rest will be done in Cinema...but every time i try saving or exporting somehow i never get the result expected

You need to give us more information in order to help you. What formats can Microstation export? If you're using DXF for example, check the import settings in Cinema, particularly the Connect options.
If you're using OBJ, download the free Riptide plugin. It gives you a ton of options. Jack

I usually export in DXF and DWG....but i always get a very hwavy load model .Apparently it exports the model as one object and that gives my pc alot of load.

hi
i worked in a studio for architectural visualisation and we used microstation and c4d. we always exported the geometry as dxf files. workes perfect. what i like about dxf is that dxf saves only geometry data, nothing else. no program specific features like blocks, splines/polylines etc. all you get is points and polygons |
