HDRI tester

hi chaps, only a quickie post.

just testing Rel 8.1 HDRI rendering. here it is:

filepush.asp?file=hdri01.jpg

nothing special, just a 2 minute model.

no lights, just image based lit using a proper .HDR map in the luminance channel.

imho it looks similar to other 3d progs hdri imagery - VERY easy to fake. i'm still not bowled over by true hdri imagery. But of course, this image does now support the true properties hdri boasts.

Up sides tho - very very fast to render, didn't notice any speed loss, also stoch modes new adaptive gi comes into it's own here too. that WAS impressive.

anyone else tested it yet?

this scene rendered in 33 seconds btw :)

Youre right Q, when i changed my email adress last week or so the forum software gave me some nasty errors, but with the third attempt it worked. I just tried to change some fields to see if it worked again, but forgot to retype the normal text back. But now i get used to live in Hlsnbdmiuoinönmcxg

thats mostly my point.

ok, perhaps i could tweek it better and work on it a tad longer and maybe use a bettet hdr map, but i'm still not a fan. it's a nice little render, but very 24 bit.

i have yet to see a hdri rendered image which couldn't easily be faked (as easily in photoshop even)

it is my opinion but i honestly think hdri really is over hyped.

and how many ppl actually use hdri imagery properly? i bet hardly any because there's a complete lack of full hdri editing software out there. (and no, im not talking about hdr shop)
