I should imagine you would have to re-render it at 32 bit, as you won't be able to gain the extra information stored in 32 bit from simply changing the image properties. I presume that's why you would want 32 bit right?
32-bit file types that max can export are HDR and EXR. Make sure to save your files with an output gamma of 1.0 as well. And don't be confused by the 32-bit TGA format which is actually 8-bits per channel.
so 16 bit is the maximum result image I can get from a render ?
No, if you save your render as an HDR or EXR file then it is 32-bit. Can I ask what it is you're doing that you require a 32-bit output? Rendering to 16-bit usually gives you enough scope to make exposure changes etc.
