one small note: I would preffer to export FormZ model to Max as DWG, beacuse 3DS has that silly limitation of 65.000 tringles ( I believe it comes from Integer maximum value of a number - programming thing ).

btw: ask anyone from Neoscape about Vray and FormZ, I think they use this combination very extensively. I also have Vray and FormZ, but still sticked in Autocad and don't have time to learn FormZ, what is really shame I think.

i am working on a new animation using this tool for the first time, and it is going great.

i think that formz 5.5 has an export to 3ds.with the default settings i have no many problems with max and vray (if you try not to have big ovelapping surfaces).
My main problem (which took me a lot of time to solve it) is that the curved surfases, where imported to max as planes. This solved if you make the curved models in formz as facetted, with a big number of detail

I export a DWG via legacy translator from FormZ with the intent of importing it into MAX on a daily basis and it works without fail everytime. For the most part smooth objects come in as smooth without any triangulation for me.

how can i use autoedge?is a max modifier?

I think that the facetting problem you're having (when importing a DWG file) is due to the import DWG settings in MAX. The setting that is crucial for this is "Surface Deviation for 3D Solids" which I usually keep at around .05". This setting will give you a smooth model that at the same time is responsive to work with.

any information about autoedge process?

back then in 2004, when i used form z, i've waited for so long to cancel my rendering, is it still happening for the new formz software?
From a recent forum post by the formZ developers:
We can now officially confirm that VRay for formZ is in development.
VRay for formZ v1.0, which supports formZ v6.7, is almost done and is expected to start public beta test in September. Additional versions that support formz 7 and Realtime rendering(RT) will follow.
For full details of the product, please wait official announcement from ChaosGroup in the coming months.
