VRay is a MAX/VIZ plugin only (at the current version). Don't see how they can work together unless your question is FMZ and MAX which you can find plenty of answers if you look at older threads.
THANKS, THATS WHAT I WAS WONDERING
Is it possible to just export from Form Z in 3ds format and then use Vray?

Yes it is...just export and then import the 3ds file into max or viz to use vray. I hate exporting models from fromZ though because the mesh triangulates to hell - so forget about doing nice little wireframe shots in max/viz (although you're better off doing this in formZ anyway).

xgarcia,
check your export options....make sure you select join coplaner objects...

Yes - I've played extensively with the export options. With large files (5 megs up) I always get triangulated mesh. BUT...it's no big deal because the FormZ geometry comes into MAX as an editable mesh which allows us to use autoedge on the mesh and the triangulation goes away (thx to Nisus for showing me that trick). I stopped using FormZ after two projects because I'm just more comfortable in MAX. Once you get past the whole "endpoint have to touch endpoints accuracy" thing modelling in MAX is so much fun. Plus I hate the viewport navigation UI in FromZ - really poor in my opinion. Too many clicks.

Of course--3ds ONLY supports triangles, it cannot contain quads. If you see a quad in Max you are looking at two triangles with their common edge hidden. But I have worked with models made in FormZ imported into Datacad and Lightscape and depending on how they were exported you can get very good quadulation (ooh, look! I made up a word!)Yes - I've played extensively with the export options...I always get triangulated mesh.
Actually you can do a little end around. If you export out of form z using a dwg (i've just found the model seems to come into max a little bit better). Then do an auto edge of the pieces it will get rid of the triangles. As long as you are modeling with planar objects the model will resemble what you had in Form Z. Then this model is perfect for use with V-Ray.
I don't think it matters if you have your model triangulated or not. Just one difference comes with viewport speed in Max - and as one said above, use AutoEdge for nice clean mesh in the viewport. So the conclusion is, triangulated model just disturbing our eyes not Vray speed
