    hahahha

    A place where people play.
So, typically a large-ish room, comparable in size to a lounge or family room, generally has no television, generally has a bar or pool table or both.

Thanks for checking out the website.

I use bluehost.. if you do a search for bluehost and words like "special" "discount" etc... you can find sites that offer really great deals for bluehost. I think my rate was something like 4$ per month, and has pretty much unlimited everything....

Earlier in the year I was setting up a joint portfolio site with a partner. He wanted to simply use a cheap and supposedly reliable host. He suggested GoDaddy. I looked into a few others, but there were always user reviews that ranged from "best ever" to "beware, run away!" So I bought a year at GoDaddy, mid-level out of three hosting options. The storage and data allowance was huge. This seemed like a good choice. It wasn't.

While testing the site, I could not get my QT animation files to play properly. They worked perfectly when run from my local folder. I thought I had messed up the code on the site (I used the code QuicktimePro generates for you when converting a file for web play). What I learned in the end was that GoDaddy lets the first 2MB flow at high speed then throttles down the throughput to a crawl. That's why our animations, being files of about 4 - 5MB, weren't playing properly. The work-around was to buy a starter-site from Earthlink (where I have my own websites) and transfer the URL. I must say GoDaddy made transferring the name easy. So now I'm paying for a year on a host that I'm not using. Cheap and useless.

The lesson is that you should not only look at the data allowance but the throughput speed, but also whether it gets slowed down after X amount has been sent.

Ernest, GoDaddy is known for their unreliability. If you search in google for "godaddy sucks" you'd be amazed to see the results!

My experience with web hosting is pretty limited as I had only 2 until now. The first one, MediaTemple was great for just a portfolio site. No issues streaming files or with the speed for a static site. Once I moved to start using content management systems for me and my clients all went down the hill. Basically for a brand new Wordpress or Joomla installation, it would take an average of 10 seconds to display my page. I've talked to their support, they knew about it and as a solution they were offering me to update my hosting plan from $10/month to a dedicated server which was minimum $50/month .

After some research I found that there are 2 hosting companies out there that get constantly better reviews than the rest. One is Bluehost and the other is Hostgator. A friend of mine had Hostgator and loved it so the choice was easy. Since I switched to them (about 2 years ago) I haven't had any major issues, all works extremely fast, I have a "baby" plan that allows unlimited domain names, unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth. The only time I had an issue with them was when I mistakenly deleted some files from my server and in order to have them put back from their backups the fee was $15. In my opinion their best feature is their live chat for support They also have an affiliate program that pays pretty well so if you guys are thinking about getting them as your webhost please make my day by using this link to get your plan: Hostgator

    Happy New Year everybody!
