    Default Light box shader

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to create a 'lightbox' shader for studio max to replicate internally illuminated acrylic boxes.

If the light box is a simple cube I've found a gradient map can pretty much do the job, however, with more complex shapes I'm struggling to create a reasonable shader.

I don't know if anyone has any ideas for this.

    Possible. It's a thought anyway.
I've not used SSS in Max before (done it in XSI...). Is it complex?
I'll certainly give it a go though.

And manchester, I'm in chorlton but work in town. Are you also a manc?

i've not used SSS personally, but i guess you could just make a translucent material and place a light inside??? just control the shape of the actual light and you should get the gradient look

yep i'm in manc. just moved out of didsbury to baguley. out of a flat, into a house. much better although location wise it's crap, i still drive back to dids every weekend or fallowfield. sometimes chorlton if i fancy a swift one on the way through to old trafford on a saturday afternoon

who you workin for in town?

Here is a link to a tutorial:

    http://www.vrayelite.com/lightbox.htm

I've used similar techniques in some projects, with nice results.
