When to use Fresnel?

I am wondering what the appropriate situation for using fresnel reflections would be? What types of materials? It seems every material I import or download uses them, but I never do.

I use them always except in instances where I'm making a 100% reflective, mirrored material.

I take it a step further, even... Instead of using regular fresnel falloffs, I use just start with a parallel falloff map and adjust the curve for each material. Granted that most of my curves end up being very similar to the curve that you would see from a normal fresnel, I like the little bit of added control.

I never use them, Lebanese clients like strong sharp reflections, even if they are unrealistic. you got to follow the country style if you wanna work locally.

I use Fresnel about 75% of the time, and fall-off the other 25%. If you need strong reflections with Fresnel, but still want the slight variations that it will give you just set the number to something between 4-20. I do it all the time.

Its really good option to increase the value of Fresnel to get better chrome like effects.
