Viz product was discontinued a few years ago... it was a <light> version of max, with limited animation features, and a lower price.

3ds Max and 3ds Max design are 99% the same thing, the differences:

3ds Max is shipped with: SDK
3ds Max Design is shipped with: Lighting Analysis..

Yeh there are only a few minor differences, but for the most part it comes down to price and what you are going to use them for.
