Lets talk IPAD

I'm posting this in the photography section as I am looking at the Ipad as an external hard drive on steroids that will fit in to my camera bag perfectly. that's the main reason really. but the interactive magazines also looks pretty awesome.

 

With the camera extension kit, its easy to empty my memory cards onto the ipad, the question is, how easy is it to download those photos back onto the pc and is there any quality loss when doing so??

 

 

I'd like to hear some thought on this and from those who dove in and already got one?

I dont know the answer for sure, but if it works like my iPhone, it should hook up quite nicely with Picasa.

i'd pressume the only quality loss would be purely down to the file format you saved it as in the first place.

 

i'd love an ipad, but i think i'll wait until gen2

The ipad downloads the full raw images, but displays the embedded jpg's on the device i believe.. downloading them to the computer is as simple as plugging the device in and it'll sync the photos down. i haven't gotten the camera kit however, so this is somewhat second hand from what i've picked from forums

 

If it was a little easier to cull the pictures or organize and tag them i think it would be pretty sweet.. as an AM i think it would work well instead of a laptop.. its slim, and not heavy at all, if you're looking for pro type remote storage, the price/gb and the current usability is a bit lacking.. that said, Overall i really like it as a tablet, but not as much as my 3 year old, who has pretty much taken it over for learning type games

Hmm, it does take camera raw files and create a jpg for each but also leaves the raw file intact for later download

I think I'm almost 100% sold. By the time the 2nd gen comes out, i'll be in a position to decide If I want to update, but probably not, as I dont see any use for a camera thingy built into the ipad thingy

I don't think it's practical just as a way to offload your JPGs. A 64GB iPad costs far more than another 64GB of memory cards, and the iPad needs time to load the photos (and I can't imagine creating the JPG previews is particularly quick or battery friendly).

 

OTOH, if you want a portable device for displaying a portfolio or playing a demo reel, this seems great. You can do Keynote presentations (it plugs into a projector and has a presenter display mode) and do web and email, and all sorts of entertainment - just don't try to make it what it isn't. Or Steve will get you.

we've used the iphone/ipod Touch for client presentations befor now to great effect. the gimmik value (not to mention the actual presentation quality) completely wows and enjoys clients.

but its not that mobile , hehehe, I remember when the guys in the office finished building the first prototype, hehe, one guy got the measurements wrong and they couldn't get it out the office doors, it set them back a week and had to postpone the launch. lol.

 

Imo every sales person in the industry should have an ipad
