One whole year gone by. . .

and what have we learned here at CG Architect? I mean, is there any important lessons we can all take from our efforts here in 2003? Lessons in how to make a CG web site for architectural visualisation concerns as effective as it could be. I think that the specialised software message boards are a good thing - because they are so straightforward - you can talk/ask about everything to do with one software.

The hardware and technical forum, of course is always in demand, as that is our tools. The general section in the architecture part is somewhere I think that people can combine ideas and share news/views about what is contemporary in architecture at a certain time. However, the finished work and WIP. Dunno - I just did from April 2002 to about the end of June 2003, and to be quite honest it a story of two very opposite extremes. You have got the stuff by the Ernst Burdens, Dibber has a recognisable style, Chen is awesome, and so others I have to like too. While some of the work is either no showing up at all - a bit like the autodesk forums without having outlook. Or else the quality of the image, is something a mere beginner could call a finished work.

Is there some voting way, or some way that we could vote the best critique threads to the top? There must be some way to use the critique forums by either artist or by date. I do not care for this 1,2,3,4,5,6 thing at the bottom of the web page - I would much prefer to see things ordered in a month by month fashion. I mean to say, there is only a year and a half worth of critique stuff in CGA, so perhaps we should all think about how best to use this.

I just think that it could be useful to scribble down some thoughts about 2003 now, before 2003 is gone altogether, and we more or less forget what we have all learned, thought about or said 'hmmm'.

CG Architect forums have got a search function.

Note that you can very easily just type in '1510' for your member number and search whatever forum you want to search.

This in turn produces a list of posts, which you made on that particular forum, with the dates of your own post beside it.

That is, the posts are arranged by chronological order, making it very easy for you to see what you were thinking/writing about at a particular time.

It is very easy too, to compare what you were thinking about in terms of Critiques, General discussion, Hardware discussions, Site Content and Photoshop Tutorial Discussions.

Very neat feature.

I'm being told that the UBB (this BB) import feature for vBulletin will be done by mid January. I've been planing to upgrade the forums to vBulletin for quite sometime, but have been working with the Jelsoft guys to get a proper working importer. The latest version of vBulletin had the ability to rank threads (I think the old one did too) Searching will also be about 1000 times faster than our board now. Keep you fingers crossed that they don't delay the release of the importer again!

Aces Hardware has got no search function whatsoever, except for articles and news features written by the editors. So this web site isn't too hard to use, once you search by a particular forum I think.

I haven't nearly as much experience with CGTALK etc as other people might have here. I have also have to significantly reduce the amount of time I can spend using broadband for 2004. I basically know my way around the web now though, which is a skill worth having these days - so I guess 2003 was well worth my time and effort.

Particularly as higher level education, and web-based learning are converging more and more these times.
