a few vray questions...

our firm is lookiing at a 3rd party rendering package to be used with max/viz.

i have no experience with vray, and their site doesnt explain much.

anyway,

 

Materials-

-how many materials does vray come with?

-does the new arch material add on with max6/viz2005 convert well to vray? (i like a lot of these materials..is it worth it?)

 

RPC's-

-does vray work with rpc's? ive read that MR does not, and i think my firm will need to see people/cars etc. i really dont like them much, but i've seen some good results...

 

Advanced/Basic-

 

-Whats the difference? again the site's link just reverts back to another page.

The Vray official site does not even say what programs Vray works with (unless I missed it, buried somewhere). I am very interested in using it, but not Max or Viz, so I am waiting for more news on the stand-alone.

they don't talk that much about the stand alone. a while ago i started a thread in the chaos forum about how they think the stand alone will be and asking if there was any news, but it seems nobody knows anything at the moment.

anyway, as long as i know vray does have its own materials but nothing like vray glass, vray chrome or anything else ready to use, if this is what you are looking for.

vray should work just fine with RPC.

there's a big difference between basic and advanced, some advanced features are particulary useful if you do animations (like the possibility of storing irradiance maps).

i'd suggest you to ask the same questions in the vray forum, and then to download the demo version and experiment yourself.
