Thing is you still have to have max6 in order to load your model, but I guess you can download the demoversion of max6 for this... I also have the same problem, so I will try it in the next couple of days...

PS: I have to go down to version 4

This is the deal:

Get yourself a demo version of max6 of the discreet website.

Get the script back from five from http://www.scriptspot.com

I had a very big scene, about 450.000 poly's, so I had to select 50.000 poly's at the time, and run the script and save to seperate directories.

Be sure to alocate enough memory for your maxscript (customize->maxscript->memory = 128 MB or so)

It works like a charm!!!

cheers

Hi,

You can also use the FilmBox FBX file format, which is a 'universal file transfer format', available as a free plugin from http://www.kaydara.com

"...allows 3D data types to flow effortlessly between different software applications. FBX makes it easy to import and export objects, animations, textures, cameras, lights, motions, skeletons and even complete 3D scene files. FBX supports : Alias|Wavefront Maya, Discreet 3ds max, NewTek LightWave, Softimage|3D, Softimage XSI and products from over twenty additional companies. "
