After installing vray and the dongle i got the following error in 3ds max: "could not obtain a licence (-197)" I tried everything the troubleshooting says in the pdf installation guide. Vray is really a pain in the XXX to install. My god, in order to install it you almost need a degree in computer science! It's supposed to be used by designers or artists, something that chaosgroup have forgotten. I've mailed chaosgroup allready but maybe any of you guys had the same problem. Tommy L Posted May 31, 2011 Share Posted May 31, 2011 I have Vray 1.5, so this may not be applicable. If you have Vray installed then it doesnt raise an error when you have licensing issues. BrianKitts Posted June 1, 2011 Share Posted June 1, 2011 that means you either don't have the vray license server application running on the machine that has your hardware dongle, your machine can't connect on the network to the machine that has the dongle, or you haven't pointed vray at the right machine to obtain a license.
