GTX vs Quadro for CAD, 3D Max + Vray

Hi all

I want to buy a new graphics card, and my question is about the Quadro vs GTX graphics cards for CAD and computer graphics.

I've been reading online reviews about it, but did not reach a final conclusion, since almost everyone agrees that the quadro is better for applications like CAD or 3d max, but yet you recommend some models either, and I would like to have your opinion on the matter.

The two graphics cards I have in mind to buy (because it is money which I own now), are:

 

GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 $ 280 .-

Stream Cores: 384 Processor Cores

My question about that is that the difference between the two since the price is obvious, but the GTX has 384 processor cores and the Quadro 192 and only 1 GB of RAM, which is better buy? a GTX or a Quadro on this occasion?

Short answer: From those 2 choices, get the GTX560.

Long answer: wait for Andrew to post :) I could but just don't have time.

LOL, Chris is right. It's not just the number of shader threads. (I hate the word "cores" for this because it confuses these GPU "cores" with CPU cores and they're not the same. It confuses the reader into thinking a 192-core GPU must be faster than a 4-core CPU, for example.) The 560's GPU is a generation newer, and those cores are clocked faster, and as you've seen it's available in a 2GB model, whereas the Quadro 2000 is a Quadro'ed and underclocked version of the 1GB Geforce GTS 450. I just can't envision the Quadroness making up for that many disadvantages.

 

That said, if this is for a company computer and your company wants you to have a certified compatible video card, the 2000 is fast enough for most purposes - but in this price class, ATI just announced this new FirePro v5900, which should definitely outperform the 2000.

Note should have.

Cuda in rendering with Cuda in the game is different. We should think more like 384 then it is better for rendering.

aref, that is not true. CUDA is a programming language. the gpu cores are simply that, cores that process information, whether it is a geforce card or a quadro card, the gpu can't tell a difference from the coding.
