Weaird material problem - base diffuse color "shines" through?

I have a very strange problem.

I have created a VrayCompTex material based on a tutorial by Peter Guthrie where I combine 2 sets of VrayDirt materials and so far it has worked fine, but I have have noticed that some areas look strange, the base diffuse color (I picked pink for some strange reason) shines though the texture, I have attached a screenshot. showing some details.

It happens if i set the Z bias at 1 to get a more downwards dirt direction but as I can read it should be set like this hmm..

Also this material doesn't show up in the viewport instead all objects with it applied looks pink... :/

I thought the diffuse color would be ignored when an image has been loaded in that slot?

I fixed the problem by lowering the Z bias value. But I'm still not able to see the actual map in the viewport. I have tried both in 2011/2012 but it seems to be a VRAY issue. maybe related to Direct3D?
