one of the old school ls gurus said somewhere else in this forum its not the same... and besides gettin max for my purposes would be like buying a ferrari just to use the ashtray that comes with it...
and i also really dont like max. had to work with it (long time ago though) and found it completely illogical compared to cinema4d.

you say realtime; just navigating through the radiosity processed model.
yeah, that was kicking ass, back in the old days.

if you look for some similar stunning stuff today, give the octane gpu renderer a chance.

just import your whole archmodel from revit, archicad or whatever in obj format.
no need for "radiosity tight" modeling.
adjust some materials and set the location, date and time for the physical daylight system.
if you change the archmodel, import it again. all materials will be preserved.

I think that all this GPU talk will have to wait for 5-10 years.
If you read at OCTANE forum rendering times with 5 GPU cards around 24 hours and more!
    Give me a break!

p.s. you might wanna check this out:

I remember 6 years ago this apps radiosity was compared to Lightscapes...seems that they have continued to develop

I know some people are still using Lightscape so maybe you can find someone that is willing to sell theirs. I'm taking my Lightscape box to my grave I started this group as a bit of a joke and tribute to one of the founders comments on my Facebook page. From what I could tell at the time, the radiosity in Max is not Lightscape.

    Hi Alex,

I also love Lightscape, and I am afraid to answer this as a "NO", there is nothing like lightscape, even 10 years after they just stop it from any upgrade or support.

I've been using Lightwave as a good alternative (fast for previews and affordable price, just not good final renders), and for final renders the best option seems to me Vray+Max (kind of expensive but the quality is just amazing and easy to import the project from LW, just texture+camera+light time), sketchup is ok if you have long time term renders in your schedule (lack on 8000 RAM) plus limited amount of polygons, not good for big projects. All the other softwares/plugins (Octane, Fray render, Kray, Maxwell, blah blah blah are just there and you will need a render farm at the end).

I also wish some news of Lightscape coming back from graveyard.

    DIALux and Relux!
If you want to walk around inside the final model then use Dialux or Relux. Both tools are free and stable. Relux uses a selfdeveloped raytracer if you need more then the shaded walkthrou; Dialux uses Povray for raytracing ..and the best of all - you get ..like in lightscape.. a failproof lighting design
