V-Ray render elements wont save

My VRay render elements wont save.

I check the box "enable" and go thru the list but when I come back to it its unchecked, and no files in the destination folder.

VFB is on, the render is saved as a .vrimg and of course the VRImg to OpenEXR untility wont work, I have to open in Max w/ "View Image File" and save out.

Im sure Im missing something simple - thanks.

I dont know much about the vrimg. but just render it without the vray frame buffer and it will be fine. Other than in testing and wanting to see elements, there is no real reason to use it over the max buffer.

I should have kept those two issues separate - but there are several advantages to using the vrimg file, same for VFB. Having said that, still isnt saving render elements.

Im using a render service for a large still file for print and Im going over my scene file to make sure Im ready - I need those elements for composite so thats the big issue now.

I can live w/o opening vrimg w/ the untility for now.

Son of a gun - there they are , I just turned off VFB. grrrr...

4 years using vray and I usually save from the VFB.

Thanks Corey - you should look into the using VFB - lots of advantages to it.

Oh good. Yeah the VFB turns them off because they are stored with the render in the VFB which allows you to save them separately. I'm sure there are a lot of avantages beyond test viewing your passes, but I just have never felt let down by the Max buffer. a couple of guys here at the office use it and go straight into PDPLayer which is awesome, but I don't have that installed yet.

The VFB totally escaped me at first and when I discovered the extended capabilities it gives you I was hooked. Lower render times for one, and instant color correction before the render is complete.

Not to thread jack or anything but I was wondering if you guys knew of any method to keep the render elements as layers contained within the "beauty pass" file? I've been saving seperate passes as seperate images for a few years now but it would vastly speed up my workflow if all of the passes could be in the sam layered file.

Hi Chris,

I was hoping to see if there was a way to have all of the render elements come in through Photoshop. At this point I don't use Combustion or Toxic for post.

Still not working for me though. You have to uncheck enable FB so you cant save while using it. Dont know about the all in one pass. Ill keep looking.
