    Default Pre made 3D cities

    Hello

I am working on a project based in Singapore, and we now need some urban context of the immediate surrounds. basically the main city centre all in 3D.

I have seen some cities in models before, and they look like they were bought from some re source, otherwise someone would have way too much time to spare to model that many buildings.

Anyone out there know how to get a hold of cities in 3D, to use as a backdrop to your scene?

There are a number of firms that do this. Some google time will help you find them. Selection will be limited to what they have produced and detail levels vary. If I remember correctly, from trying to buy a model of Washington DC, prices can vary wildly. Expect $5000-10000 (or more) depending on how much of the city you need.

Have you looked at Google Earth? Might not be what you need, but if you turn on 3D Buildings, Singapore is pretty well populated and fun to explore at street level.

Or try use this free script (lite version) and make your own cityscape. If it's for background purposes this could do the trick perhaps.

    I would suggest..
    - Check all the evermotion Archexteriors etc, they often have well known buildings.
    - Check turbosquid for main buildings need.
    - Check Google earth and sktechup model libary.
If you can get a few of the immediately neighboring buildings, then that will help. Otherwise you may need to model them.
For the further out buildings/city, use greeble, ghosttown, MultiScatter, CityEngine or similar plugin/program.

CityEngine will give you cityscapes faster, modelled on your own lines, so to speak.
