DWG import script question?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to improve workflow and was wondering if a script like this is possible of even exists?

I am constantly importing 3d furniture models from my CAD dept. I go through all their layers (40+) and combine and clean them up for my needs.

For example I may get the layers CAD1 , CAD2, CAD3 and clean it up in Max to look like MAX1 = [CAD1,CAD2], MAX 2 = [CAD3]. So now I have only 2 layers made in Max.

Anyways is there a script that I can run that will take the CAD layers and automatically combine then re-assign to my pre-made layers?

I hope this isn't to confusing. I just do this so often I'm looking for some shortcuts here and since CAD's layers names never change I don't have to worry about any issues there.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Jimmie
