my geometry has edges but no verts! slice tool's fault.

I was using the slice tool for some of this, but just trying to do some basic cutting/welding and noticed some of my polygons are made... without vertices! how is that possible and what can I do about it!?

Edit: I found out that everywhere I've used the slice tool has neglected to put in verts. Scary.... what do I do??

Have you gone to sub-ob unhide all? Verts do exist, they are just not showing. You cant have geometry without verts.
