Jason Matthews Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 It's probably fine then. I like to have some head room for RAM and 8gb just doesn't cut it IMO. If you were doing Revit I would say you will be fine util your model gets above 30Mb. Processor is good and the video card is OK. Dimitris Tolios Posted January 22, 2013 Share Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) It is a mediocre buy because of the 768p screen. It is just too small imho. I have worked on a 768p laptop for a year. It was pretty fast for its time, yet the limited screen real estate really becomes hard to work with when in CAD or illustrator etc you dealing with extended toolbards. The interface eats up all the space, and you are left with a small keyhole sized viewport to work with. If you have to go to a 17" to get 900-1080p, do it. artmaknev Posted January 27, 2013 Share Posted January 27, 2013 These two things are not good for 3ds max and CAD... the screen is indeed to small to work around in max with all the toolbars open, also that graphic card is really slow, no matter how many gigs it has, I think the clock speed is too slow, only good for watching movies, spending extra $300-400 upgrading these two items will be worth it in the longer run: Resolution 1366 x 768 Pixel Graphic Processor NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jason Matthews Posted January 27, 2013 Share Posted January 27, 2013 When I was in school I ran CAD and Max on an 850mhz P2 with a 15" screen and 8mb graphics card and had no problems. You should learn the AutoCAD keystrokes. Do that you are not dependent on all of the toolbars. Close the toolbars and you get your screen real estate back. I know that money is tight as a student and mobility is key especially when working on your project in the middle of arch history.
