I recently came across this article that lists several methods for getting from Revit to 3d PDF, and you could likely get from Max to 3d PDF using similar workflows. I feel that a more modern approach to this would be WebGL as opposed to 3d PDF, but WebGL has some browser requirements and is still fairly rough around the edges since it is an emerging technology.
