Need advice for making a rendering PC

this pc i wanna build specially for rendering. Scatchup, 3D MAX are the prime soft.

 

cpu- Intel Core i7-3770K, Clock Speed 3.5 GHz

mobo- MSI 990FXA-GD65 AMD

gpu- Gigabyte GTX 600 4G1 GV-N650OC 2GB DDR5 PCI Express Card

ram- Team 2GBX4 DDR3 1600

hdd- Toshiba 1TB SATA Desktop HDD

psu- Corsair 750W

 

please help me by giving your expert opinion. THANK U.

 

P.S.- i m specially confused about the motherboard. IS IT APPROPRIATE FOR THIS CONFIGURATION ?

Well, the cpu is of a previous generation and the motherboard is made for AMD FX processors (socket AM3+). Judging by the selected items above, I suggest a total budget of about 800-850$. Is that right?

Much better now: 16gb of RAM, excellent combo, fast ssd for your OS, much cheaper and far better/newer gpu etc. Of course, I don't know the e-shop you are going to buy from and all the choices above are just demonstrative.

-why are you looking for a rendering pc, is it because you have a very slow pc right now and you would like to speed up the rendering proces after you are done modelling

-define your work process

-what percentage of your time do you model

-what percentage of your time do you render

-budget

 

(Here is something to get you started however it all comes down to your budget, so maybe stupid of me to write it down:

 

cpu- Intel Core i7-4790K

mobo- Z97

gpu- try the igpu (hd 4600) of the processor first and see how it works with your chosen software

ram- 2x8 gb (i prefer crucial or kingston, go to their website)

hdd- get yourself a 256 GB ssd to start with)

I have a 2nd gen i3 with 2gb amd gpu- 4gb ddr3.... it is pretty awful when it is about rendering. rendering quality is not good enough.

i wanna use the newer 1 for both workstation and rendering. And yes i would like to speed up the rendering process after modelling.

the percentage for model -60 and for render- 25-30%

budget is 800-850 or 900$

 

actually there is another problem. in our local shops the product variation are limited. and if i choose a e shop then it take time for shipping + more money.

H97 and B85 mobo are not supposed to used for overclocking, but that doesn't mean you can't overclock with them. If you decide to go with a B85 mobo do a extensive research on the web about overclocking capabilities of chosen mobo.

 

RAM: 2 X 8 GB ddr3 1600 mhz

 

cheaper: 1 x 8 GB ddr3 1600 mhz

 

GPU: use your old GPU or use iGPU of processor

 

PSU: Seasonic G-series, Antec Edge series, Cooler Master V-series

 

CPU COOLER: if you try to decide to overclock just put a big ass cooler on top of the cpu.

If you have a old 1155 motherboard i assume it can take i7 cpu (SB i think) so get something like this i7 2600k (so you can OC it) + large cooler (check ur mb to make sure it will work)

And get 16gb of ram...... you will probably have to get it all second hand but it should only cost a $200 - $400 otherwise save up 2k and get a decent pc...... you could get the above but it will only be 20% faster..... realistically you really need to save up a bit more to get anything that i would recommend for rendering how ever both solutions will work if cash is tight.

Rendering quality has nothing to do with processing speed.

 

When i doubt, google for some CGI that dates 5-6 or 10 years ago, and see the masterpieces done back then with single core P4 & A64 / Thunderbird CPUs. If they could do it back then, we can do it today.

 

Back on track:

 

Since you have a 2nd gen i3, you probably have a s1155 mobo as mentioned by Joel.

The fastest CPU you can get for this platform is the 3770/3770K i7 (4C/8T). Alternately you can go for the slightly older but cheaper i7-2600K, but unless you are into trying overclocking and the such, the 3xxx Ivy bridge i7s are faster with the same clocks and probably a better bet.

 

In theory you don't need to go even close to depleting your budget to get a decent system.

 

Just replace the CPU and probably 2x8GB DDR3 and you are good to go.

@joel... i like this combo.though it is slightly out of my budget, but its ok.

 

and about the i3 desktop... my elder brother need that. so, mum told me to get a full package.

and thats why i decided to get a better one.....

 

Now, one of my faculty suggest me this combo given bellow....

 

CPU- AMD FX-8370E Socket AM3+

MOBO- MSI AMD 990FXA-GD65 AMD chipset based

GPU- SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC

RAM-Corsair vengeance- 4GB X 2 DDR3-

ups-Powerpac 1200VA UPS-

PSU- thermaltake 650 watt.

 

He suggested this for of having more core. But he is not sure about AMD CPUs. he told me to do a little bit of research about it.

and i see the benchmarks. and it looks like it is not too good for gaming (comparing with i5 / i7) but but it is almost good with the softwares.

But i have no idea, how its gonna works with my softwares (photoshop,Scatchup, 3D MAX)

 

And, finally all those things make me more confusd.

 

NOW u guyz tell me which one is better combo? Joel's or this one?

Yeah,

 

I thought you may want to pass or sell your old pc. That's why you gave me the links of the computer web shops, isn't it? For buying everything new.

 

Now, going the amd route:

 

For most games an amd fx 83.. is fine and you won't see much difference compared to a similar priced intel cpu.

However there are some games that are not optimized for more cores and threads and then its better to go for an intel cpu.

 

And why an intel cpu, you ask? Well that's because it has a higher single core speed than an amd cpu.

 

In some of the links I provided you can see the cinebench scores of a single core (one single core is working at it's max). You will notice that an intel single core performance can be up to 75% faster compared to a amd.

 

And let it be so that most modelling apps during modelling also work on one core. (when rendering they use all the cores you can throw at it and for rendering the amd fx.. can be considered if budget is tight)

 

So for your software I would go the intel route, because:

 

-high single core speed

-and it consumes far less energy during rendering (100% cpu load)

 

A downside of going for a i7 4790K would be that's those ****ers get hot. And because you live in a hot country (I think) I would suggest you to buy an aftermarket cpu cooler as well instead of using the cpu cooler provided with your processor. However this means you will have to spend more cash.
