Saving blurrs .JPG format

This isn't a VRay issue, it's a 3DS max issue. Their JPEG conversion is absolute sh*te, always has been. I'm not sure why it should lose so much quality, because it doesn't when you save out as a JPEG from photoshop.

 

Saving from the VFB, will it not be VRay thats doing the jpg compression? Ive not noticed Max having an issue saving out jpgs. I save animation element frames as jpg12 because they are practically loss-less and small file size. Beauty pass can be saved as EXR and everything else jpg.

16 bit TIFF is also good. Lossless and keeps a lot of range.

Well (back in the day) I used to have the same issue with saving it from the max frame buffer when rendering out of mental ray. I think whatever algorithm it is they use to compress the image is awful.
