V ray Very slow with 2side material and mutliscatter

Hi

 

i am using vray 3.30.05

 

with multiscatter

 

i work on a exterior scene with objects grass with 2side mat

 

with multiscatter and its very slow as hell what can i do and this some shots from 3d max

 

 

i try subdivision with low 8 or high 128 also take much time render with irr and final

Did you try with single material, not 2-sided? I think 2-sided is overkill for grass and plants with lots of leaves.

 

If you aren't doing a close up of the leaves/grass (your pic looks like bushes, not grass btw), do you really need every leaf to be barely translucent?

 

Each one casts shadows and also blocks light, so you would only see the translucent effect on the outer leaves, meaning the ones that can catch the light behind them without also catching shadows.

 

I wonder if you can get a similar feel by applying a ior falloff curve between a) the normal grass texture, and b) a brightened copy of the grass texture (hint: Mix shader) in the diffuse channel, which can give an edge glow/softness effect.
