Tip on adding faces per sketch

Hi all,

I have a counter for a cafeteria modeled and I need to add components to it. I want to add cold food units, heated shelves, etc.

On a rectangular counter I typically use the inset tool to create rectangular components that are perfectly square and I just do that twice to create an "interior" face which I extrude down (to make the hole) and a smaller inset for the frame which I extrude up (the flange)

How would you recommend creating the attached faces as this is an angular counter so the faces are not really going to be square using the connect tool.

I sketched in blue what I need to add.

I avoid using merge or Boolean method because it break the mesh too much.

Regular poly modeling can do this.

You can use slice to cut straight lines and inset and extrude from there.

You could draw the rectangles with splines and use them as reference or to "snap" the slice plane.

Or you can start from a separate rectangle and create all those insets there and then put in top of your counter and adjust the exterior edges to fit the shape of the counter.
