Unreal materials

Hey guys,

 

Now that a fair few of you are starting to use unreal engine I was wondering if any of you had any tips for creating materials?

 

I have to say every time I look at the material editor in it, I am completely and utterly perplexed; something as simple as adding a diffuse colour you have to use a "constant 3 vector"; known to the rest of the world as an RGB value. Don't even get me started on believable refraction.
