Default Apartment renders - Burj Khalifa Dubai

    Studio/Institution: Personal
    Genre: Residential Interior
    Software: 3ds Max | V-Ray
    Description:

    Hi guys

I'm currently working on my portfolio to find my first job in a visualization studio, and I was hoping to get some feedback on my latest set of images. I'm only going to include 3 or 4 out of the whole lot.

Already I think the balcony area is not working, it feels too over exposed, and the interior lacks something I don't know exactly.

All the cameras have this setting:
    f/5.0
    shutter speed 1/20
    iso 250

Your tones seem too uniform - just google apartment interiors. You'll see a LOT of play of light and tones/

Thank you george. I have received similar feedback about my work in the past. I don't know, my images just seem to turn out this way. I'll keep chipping away at it.

Is it something that can be fixed with retouching? or do you think there's something fundamentally wrong with the lighting set up?

Things just need to be brought to life. This quick rough PS post already shows the floor and carpet coming to life with light and darks - lighting effects are more apparent, the ceiling is more articulated. Like I said - look at magazine websites because they've had a photographer come in and optimize lighting and tones.

In addition to the flat tones I'd add the folowing:
    1. The image doesn't seem to have a focal point or highlight. The curved glazing could be used to frame the shot if showing the flow of spaces in the apartment as that is unique to the building.
    2. The wood floor is has the right glosiness but I believe there would be a slight groove in the individual timberboards.
    3. I believe an apartment in the desert would have a slightly warmer feel?

Well a couple of days turned into a month... but anyways I hope these are an improvement on the previous renders.

I had a reference image in mind, a photograph by Lorenzo Pennati below:

    Amhed,

Great improvement - these really look good!

It's amazing what looking at photos will do to improve renderings.
