Default Book recommendations for improving interior exterior scenes

    Hello,

I want to start off by saying that I don't have a formal education in either architecture or design and I'm interested in making architectural visualization as part of my career.

So I want to find some books mostly, but really it can be any learning material, that can help me better understand how to create a building, design the interior, create landscapes for an exterior scene, basically the creative part, the decision making process (why add this, why add that, etc).

I've watched videos, tutorials, courses on architectural visualization but most of the information is technical, there is very little on the creative process.

I already know how to work with 3D software (3ds Max and Blender) and have made some projects, but I'm not really happy with the results. For anyone interested, I upload my work on artstation here.

So any recommendations for me to improve on the creative side is most welcomed. Thanks!

    Hi Alex,
if you're new to Architectural Visualisation & Photography then it's probably a good idea to get a book on the subject to understand the concepts that make a good image (lighting/composition/camera techniques etc etc).
I could recommend "Architectural photography" by Adrian Schulze or "Architectural photography" by Norman McGrath, and probably any introduction to photography.
After that, it comes down to your own creativity and ability in arch viz., but it's a good idea to do an image search online to get inspiration for your project, keeping in mind the brief your client / architect has given so you're heading in the right direction. Ie prepare your own style sheet at the beginning of the project.
    Good luck,

I've been slowly getting into some photography as well, so something like architectural photography will be very useful. Thanks!

Best book I have ever read on archvis:

    http://bookshop.blackwell.co.uk/book...BoCBFMQAvD_BwE

Its got great advice on workflow that you cant find anywhere else.

    But also:

    http://bookshop.blackwell.co.uk/book...BoCPvwQAvD_BwE

This is superb for getting some actual numbers to be used in setting up lighting and rendering for very effective renders. Lots of useful examples on how different settings affect the final image.

I saw mentions of 3ds max design architectural visualization of being a good book for archviz, on other websites. Thanks for your suggestions, will give them both a look!

Yes that first book - I had already got some of the chapters out of it, from CG Architect I think, that I used - like preparing an architects CAD drawings, and making a site plan etc. I just didnt know they were from this book until later. Its basic stuff and you may already do it but its great advice. Its like the sort of advice that I know about with AutoCAD, that took me years of experience to learn. That kind of thing is invaluable for speeding things up. Even just stuff like how to create the walls of a classical building using a sweep profile is good to know.
