    Default HDRI shadows in VRay

I'm new in using HDRI technology. I've found a lot of tutorials and HDRI HOWTO's but I have a problem with shadows made by hdri. I don't know how to increase shadow intesity if the only source of light is hdri map in vray sky.

    help?

    tnx.

    - boris

p.s. i found this very useful tutorial about matte shadows in vray

I'm not a vray expert, but typically you don't get hard shadows from skylight. You can however try to enhance what is there by switching the exposure control and/or the IRmap contrast. That has worked for me in the past.

    thanks jeff,

exposure control helped. Is there any possibility to vray render first shadow and than geometry as layers? (to have different values for exposure)

i'm testing usage of hdri in interior with help of this challenge http://www.blochi.com/gfx/hdri/

I don't have Vray but have you tried adding a vray spotlight
    to simulate the sun?

have a look at our "smart" dynamic range project:
    http://sdr.cgtechniques.com/

it's more like a workflow imroovment, but it's a way to produce nice shadows and realistic colorshades.

Download some samples and run the script for Lightwave, Max, C4d or maya.

    Christian
    Looks interesting.
Where are the scripts? Do we have to register on your project site?

    Cheers

    no!

You will find all files on the *dev* board. .. it's still WIP and we still searching for a XSI coder since our goal is to make this format plattform independent (borders always have to fall)
here the maxscript, which should work with vray and finalrender:

the project is sleeping at the moment, but it will awake in summer for final coding and a working authoring tool.
