Small Town Walk Through

Hi all,

I am looking for suggestions. I want to create a graphics package for a client who does not exactly know what they are after. They want some before and afters of several future buildings in their town. Maybe some walk through animations of a couple of streets. Maybe an overall (aerial photo) of the study area (several blocks in each direction).

I am thinking of some kind of interactive piece that would allow the user to fly around the overall model/aerial and click on hot buttons that would bring up the before/afters or the animations. All of this would be delivered over the web.

I have done alot of before/after renders and animation, but what I am looking for is a good solution for the overall walk through navigation.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

To deliver it over the web, there are couple of solution:

VRML (virtual reality modeling language) which is free and most 3D app can output to that standarc (*.wrl.. it's an industrial standard) It also allows you to archieve what you say through scripting. There are many books (most of them dates back before 2000) on this topic. Right now it's called "X3D"... which is a new standard but essentially the same thing. (http://www.web3d.org)

Wirefusion (http://www.demicron.com) this one is commercial application, which you have to buy, but it's got a marvelous interface where you LINK the behaviors together to achieve your interactivity. The way it shows interactive 3D is through JAVA, so you must make the user install JAVA itself by providing a link to Sun's java site. I think if you buy one of the recent "3D World" magazine, it comes free on the Cover CD (older 3.2 version, which is COMPLETELY FREE NOW!.. Can even use it for commercial purposes as if you have bought it)

Quest 3D (http://www.quest3D.com) Yet another commercial solution, similar to Wirefusion except they use Active X for web delivery.

AXEL (http://www.mindavenue.com/en/home/) Yet another commercial solution, similar to Quest3D on what it does offer.

Anark Studio (http://www.anark.com/) VERY similar to AXEL....

Macromedia shockwave 3D (http://www.macromedia.com) I don't like Shockwave 3D much, it's got a rocky start, and the performance from Shockwave 3D isn't every good (it doesn't seem to have a very robust engine)

I only listed the major one, there are a lot more other web3D type delivery system eg. Virtools Dev (http://www.virtools.com), Cult3D (http://www.cult3D.com) etc...so just look around you will find one you like :)
