  1. Very nice mood and light, composition works well too... and I do not mind that DOF... but I am not sure about plants in front of the house... they look less convincing than greenery/trees in background... also the brick texture, well you may try with another one, perhaps darker, you could get even nicer results... But all in all, very nice image with potential to get even better with few touch ups...
  2. There should be tutorial on Luxology that covers those topics, done by Andy Brown... http://www.luxology.com/store/training_series06.aspx
  3. Hey Brian, very generous! Great... I am not sure if I get here on time, but I will register and try! Cheers!
  4. As for the image it is quite nice... a bit more contrast would help I think... I would say that using ready made content is not a crime... The Evermotion sell it, they have collection of 60 or more volumes of ready made content for archviz. If you buy them, sure you will take advantage of good and detail modeling of trees, cars and other stuff... That is the overall course of this industry... The new and better content appear every day... The one whole industry live of producing the archviz ready made content... However, there is ethical question that rise with it, and it is about setting the line between using ready made content and using ready made work/scenes... When I competed at AVC, the theme was natural environment and I had no ready made content whatsoever... no detailed 3d treas, no textured rocks, no ready made water, nothing... I did it all by myself... modeled and textured rocks, palm trees, used stupid max foliage and retextured it and so on... Yes, I learned a lot then, but would I do differently now? Probably would, as many of the people do that, one have to keep up... Evermotion models are high quality and very detailed and they are raising standards in our job... Personaly, I like to model my own content most of the time, especially furniture. I would love to have time to model plants and even cars, but as all of us know it is tedious and very time consuming task for which we do not have time. I did recently the house exterior with trees added in Photoshop... most of the critics were addressing that, so I figure, I would do better with 3d trees, but thatn you need best quality to look good and what to do? Reach for Evermotion...
  5. Congratulations to the winners and to all the contestants...
  6. Actually, I also see no proble with the shadows... the color might be from the skylight or whatever enviroment type you use... but the fact they are not so dark is usually good thing for the clients... they do not like dark areas usually... But that could be easilly adjusted anyway, either in color mapping settings or in postwork... adding contrast or changing exposure settings a bit... Generally, the lightness of the shadows in Vray comes from the ballance of the light that simulate the sun and enviroment light. In the beginings of Vray it was done with direct light and skylight from Vray enviroment panel... There you could adjust the intensities on your own... I think you did something like that here Now they introduced sun and sky system, where the lights are linked and sun intensity is lot stronger in that relationship, so you have more contrast usually... The problem here is more in the saturation of the background and roof... Glass could be a bit transparent and could use some reflection map... try with suggested, to put the map in enviroment slot of glass material, or you could try to make an arc, extrude it and map it with some trees+sky+clouds image... As said, you need to texture the street in foreground... If you just take some time to correct those little things, image would really shine... Yes, the trees are looking great...
  7. I would agree, but as a Vray user, I am not so happy with the direction that it took in development, and if we have the option to choose (as max, viz, maya and xsi users) we may try take sometimes MR for certain situations... Ease of use is not MR strongest side, but from recently that is something you can override by using some preset settings... The speed depends on situation...
  8. Ok, here are some of my observatons that I put together in an article, those are however based on just some quick tests, lot more things still to investigate and explore... antialiasing as one very important for instance... but here is the link http://www.3dallusions.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=236&Itemid=74&PHPSESSID=01e1369fde7a2c113fa192d1f9e49afb
  9. Yes, that livingroom should be more recent work, cause it is scene from 3dallusions challenge from last New Year... Anyway, as Rick pointed out it is difficult to give precise comments on such quantitty... we can only make some general comments, like nice work, etc...
