  1. hi james. thanks for the response. i figured out a way to create those outlines from masks. i took the mask in photoshop . used magic wand to select an area and then right clicked and created workpath.after that i used file> export as > svg. so that thing is resolved. when we tested this the issue that is coming now is when the base color is white in the rendering the color can be customised perfectly using any color in the mixer or swatches. the blend works perfectly but when the base color is not white but a darker shade and we click on a color swatch now the final color is different than what it was on a perfect white area. second issue is while using textures. if we try to create different options of lets stay stone then just a color swatch wont work. the whole stone texture has to change and mapping has to change accordingly based on stone size. i have seen something like this where kitchen cabinets show different texture options and the mapping and complete texture changes and not just the color.how to deal with this? any luck here? thanks

Hi everyone this exactly is not a max question but it does involve creating matte elements in 3dsmax so i am posting this here. we are working on a kitchen and dining area render project which has to go on web . once its there a viewer should be able to change colors of things like cabinets, chair, counter top etc with a color or material picker on the webpage with help of a color mixer or color swatches on the screen. now that customisation thing will be created by the web developer using blend modes etc which is not part of our domain as 3d artist. but what he wants from us is that we give him masks like cabinet areas. sofa fabric area, flooring etc. we know how to create those masks by using multimatte or wirecolor render elements but he doesnt want those in image format. he wants the edges and masks colors in svg format so that he can use those svg files in what he calls CSS blending modes.he wants those masks in svg formats. the time consuming method to do this will be to trace out edges of mask in adobe illustrator but we are looking for a faster way to do this because we already have multimattes from max.we can use vray or corona both to create those mattes. can anyone help with this? has anyone done this kind of thing before? is there any other way of doing this color customisation of products for webpages? any other software?

Hi everyone. i am bit stuck here with one of my rendering projects of a rooftop patio in which client is asking for particular people doing specific activities like playing cards, drinking wine, reading newspaper, working on laptop etc. also he wants to show a mix of demographic characters so that they are all not from same race. i am not able to find people using the stock pictures websites. i am just not able to find exact thing and that would fit my rendering like sitting or standing and doing a prticular activity.i purchased few stock pictures also but client was not happy with them. can you please guide me to resources for these. where can i find them. i dont mind purchasing them. Thanks
  6. hi all i am trying to uvw map a editable poly with high poly count and i am trying to match texture line with some edges of windows top and bottom and i cant see them because of all the other edges of the object. is there any way to hide them in viewport so i can see the texture clearly behind these edges. thanks
  7. hi all i was just wondering if there is any way or maybee any script where i can change vray light subdivions of different lights together when they are not instances. basically i have lot of lights in a scene with varying intensity and are not instance of each other. so i want a way to make their subdivisions hig or low like 8 or 24 or vice versa in one go. so that i dont have to do it by selecting each light and changing subdivisons one by one. in vray light lister it shows all the lights but i am not able to select them all there and just make subdivions same in one go. any advice on this? thanks
  8. hi all i am using 4 machies as server and rendering frames of animation using backburner. now everything loads succesfully on all machines and all servers start rendering without any error. now the problem is that one of the servers is rendering out complete black frames whereas the remaining three are rendering frames perfectly. i have tried to find the solution online but not been able to.what went wrong with this server as its log also doesnt show any errors. Please help thanks
  9. Hi everyone. Posting after a long long time. i am facing a rather unique problem. using 3dsmax 2014 and vray 3.0.008. now there are two particular textures that are giving me trouble. even if i have placed them in proper paths max is not able to pick them and always shows them as missing.now since its a big aerial view i dont remmeber exactly on which object these textures were used. can someone help me with this. why is it still showing as missing textures even if they are kept on proper path as rest of the textures How can i solve this Thanks

Hi everyone i need a suggestion regarding rendering a crop of a scene. okay here is what happened. i rendered a scene at 10000 pixels. now client sent me a crop region of that render and asked me to render that region at 5000 pixels now. how can i do it. he doesnt want camera to go forward and zoom in that crop area . he just wants to get exact that cropped area rendered only but at 10000 pixels. my problem is i dont know how to set exact crop window of 10000 pixels X 10000 pixels and render that region. please suggest i am clueless and he is on my case to get this done sooner than tomorrow Thanks
  12. okay now i dont know what is wrong. reading that link and doing the calculation. 18600 at 100 DPI is 6200 at 300 DPI?(18600/3)? when i open this image in photoshop and try to expand now the image size showing is 20 inches and i enlarge it 3 times it only becomes 60 inches and not 186 as calculated which means my calculation is wrong somewhere. please help
  13. hi guys i am trying to understand resolution and pixel dimensions. if i save an image of size 1200 pixels at 300 DPI from 3ds max and take it to photoshop and make it 100 dpi and 3600 pixels will the quality be same? actually i am trying to render a big billboard size which is 186 " wide and rendering it at 100 dpi means 18600 pixels which is huge so i was thinking if i save image at 200 DPi and reduce pixel size to 9300 from 3dsmax and then enlarge it in photoshop will it be same as rendering 18600 at 100 DPI? thanks
  14. thanks dmitris for the link but i am a little confused with the following "Unless indicated otherwise, this information applies to the 2013-2011 versions of all Autodesk products. Autodesk product versions of 2010 and earlier are no longer supported and are not included in considerations of Windows 8 compatibility." the list below htis text doesnt show 2011 though. what am i missing?
