  1. Cool! I hope to see you there. Don't get in trouble though hehe.
  2. I noticed this thread was quite old and I am not sure that the Dalnet channel is around anymore. I thought if anyone made it to the last page of this thread I'd just post a quick note saying either click on the 'live chat' button in the upper right hand corner of the page or /join #architecture on efnet irc via mirc.
  3. I have to admit I've only posted on the forums a few times but I am a daily member of the live chat and if you haven't stopped by you've missed quite a bit of posting of images and very helpfull and friendly group critique going on in real time almost daily.. I hope during the competition people will decide to drop by and 'chat'. And I'll try to make it more of a point to post on the forums
  4. I don't want to slander anyone. It is possible that a forum where reviews are written could be a place where slander may occur but it would be the individual posters responsibility to tell the truth about their relationship in an honest but non-malicious manner. Reviews are written all the time for everything from books to movies to business practices and it is done in a manner in which it best serves the public. This is pretty much exactly what I am proposing here. It would act as nothing more than a service where we could protect our community. If there were more unity on our side of the fence then I don't think artists and designers would be such a frightened community of people living in fear of our own clients. I really hope that this idea gets some consideration. I sincerely belive it will be a benifit to us all. Also I just wanted to post the definition of "Slander" taken from dictionary.com because I think it is a word thats definition is often missunderstood by people. slander \Slan"der\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Slandered; p. pr. & vb. n. Slandering.] 1. To defame; to injure by maliciously uttering a false report; to tarnish or impair the reputation of by false tales maliciously told or propagated; to calumniate. I too like to get some payment up front and just a thought for others that I found that helps me some is to schedule large projects in segments. Take an up front payment for a portion of the project and then bill again when that portion is used up. Work on another project while that check is being processed and then resume work on the project when you have recieved and cleared that payment. I think that is pretty much the same thing that MBR suggests which is a true pearl of wisdom.
  5. I would like to see what the chances are of starting a forum where we can review people who contract us for work. Mostly this is inspired by people who contract me from distant locations and don't pay me and then threaten to come to cgarchitect.com and contact artists here. I am sure that I could save some people some headaches by posting my experiences with these type of people. I am sure I am not the only one who has had this experience and I think it would be a great way to promote ethical relationships in the industry, earn us more money, and solidify our community. What do you think?
  6. Oh I forgot: I did this in 3dsmax v4.2 on a dual amd 1900+ win2k 1G ram
  7. Wicked! Whats the images on the ceiling that caught my eye?
  8. Also I would add some shadows under the trees so they don't look so pasted on. But the project looks cool I want to go down that slide really bad!
  9. looks great! The only thing that scares me are the two naked black men standing so close together.
  10. Hi guys. Nice work here I have checked in several times to see what you all are doing but never posted any pics. I thought I would though since nisus said I should ;P Anyway I know there is a lot I could do to this pic. Starting with a better modeling job but any comments would be welcome. This thing originally started as just a quick model to show what an addition would look like on the back of the house which is not really shown too well in this angle. There were no blueprints of the house so I had to go out and do measurments and take some photos to model it. I would post the photos but I have them in a storage shed. hehe http://www.bradleystone.com/images/3d/price-st1.jpg
  11. Very Kickass! If I were rich enough I would buy one.
  12. I have to agree.. this is a shitty business. The only reason you should do it is if you think it is fun cause the money isn't great. So far it is costing me more to do it than i make. I dont think that the lack of money is due to shitty marketing or anything like that either due to the fact that i have marketed for some very sucessfull companies. One problem is that architects are cheap and very competitive. Architects aren't willing to pay another architect or even visualization guy because they see you as a threat. The software and hardware are a resonably large investment and it is a technically dificult skill that will soon be outdated. With programs like revit and archicad soon architects will only design in 3d and during this trasition 3d developers will be making the software even easier to use, modelers will have virtually designed everything and doing photorealistic previz will be a piece of cake for even entry level CAD people. So keep your day job. ;P
  13. Just make sure that you dont approach a job desperate for cash. It screws with the whole industry. "My computer guy can do it for peanuts" sound familiar? "Then let him do it." sound familiar? I hope so cause thats what you should say. Don't forget you control the situation. You are the one with the skills to do the job. I dunno why you guys are getting paid so little because i could get well over $1,0000.00 USD for that model. Perhaps its because you dont' believe you are a damn computer expert, an architectural expert, and an artist! Ask anyone with a lick of sense and you will really see the guy/girl in the mirror is the one in control. Don't forget one of our favorite Aynn Rand characters went to work in a Rock Quarry. Have a little pride, keep the dignity in the profession. Every image I have seen here is totally professional and worth money so charge it and make us all happy. There is not a need to be glum about our future either.. there is an infinite amount of cyber realestate waiting to be developed and a world that is drooling for the worlds we will build! Keep em coming
  14. This is my first post to this forum. I would first like to say that cgarchitec.com has some superb talent in its members. You guys are an inspiration to us all. My question is a simple one.. I am relativly new to the architectural visualization comunity and am curious if there is any sort of pricing guidlines setup. If so, could some kind soul pass some links my way? If not, perhaps this could be a springboard for a nice thread. I belive when you are part of a community you must act like a part of it. This website is a great example of community. People here readily share information with each other out of love for the subject and its these types of comunities that inspire in me the urge to make sure that my prices don't harm the comunity in general by lowballing the crowd. This is a field where everyone involved is an expert in many areas and competition is non-agressive so if there is not a price guideline I sugest we make one. What do you all think? Cheers Brad
